Learn from the NY Giants...

Hey guys

Yes, the NY GIANTS have won the SuperBowl LXII! They are the Champions! But there is a lesson we can learn that can be applied to our own training routines and diet plans.
Many of us start off the year training hard and eating right. But not too soon later, it is all given up. Think of it this way, just as many thought the Giants were bound to lose given the Patriots winning streak, the Giants showed that with shear dedication, focus and perseverance, you can really achieve anything.

So let's take a page out of their books and put some hard work into our workouts and nutrition. While many of our friends are sure we will fail, let's show them that even if the odds are against us, we too can achieve great results by setting our sights on the final prize...a healthier and more energized lifestyle.

While winning a SuperBowl may not be in most of our futures, we can visualize a fitter lifestyle as our SuperBowl trophy.

Come, let's shock our friends and make this year a year to remember!

Catching Some Sun

Hey guys

Looks like Superman is not the only person benefiting from our sun. According to a recent study, it suggests that some people may also benefit from getting some golden rays.

The study shows that even some sunlight may benefit the body tremendously from the vitamin D it produces. This includes protective effects for some cancers and ailments such as rickets, osteoporosis and diabetes. While we can get vitamin D from certain foods, the body's main source comes from the sun.

In addition, since vitamin D helps our bodies use calcium, it is crucial in maintaining bone strength. Hence, a lack of it could potentially lead to heart disease, colon cancer and prostate cancer.

However, we're not talking about sun tanning or spending extended periods of time out in the open—we just need the vitamin D to help our body's immune system work properly.

So let's join the Man of Steel for a little sunshine.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hey guys

I trust all of you had a wonderful and extraordinary year. Hope your year-end holiday was a great time of celebration with loved ones and a chance to recharge before this new year began.

Yes, it's the start of another year! May this year bring you continued success in all your pursuits and may the results greatly exceed your expectations.

It's also time to get back into shape if you've been a little slack with your choice of food lately (who isn't?). For those who have been more disciplined, it's time to take your fitness to the next level.

And for everyone who wants to get into shape this year, it's time to take that FIRST LITTLE STEP. But let's not become another statistic of New Year resolution failures—let's not make this a resolution. Let's just take that one step first. You can do it, just like these others did too! And I will be here to support your efforts.

To a great 2008!

Keeping Motivated

Hey guys

Here are seven steps to keep you motivated during this holiday season.

1. Remember the benefits of exercise. We are more motivated to do things that are beneficial to ourselves. The more we will benefit, the more it will motivate us. For example, if I told you that I’d give you a million dollars to take a 30-minute walk tomorrow morning, would you do it? You bet you would!

2. Create your personal “reasons list”. Keep a piece of paper and pen handy for a couple of days. Then, jot down EVERY reason you can think of as to why consistent exercise is beneficial for you. For example, you will be healthier, fitter,
lose weight and have more energy.

3. Exercise first thing in the morning, every morning. Folks, if you’re really serious about exercising, then get serious about it.

4. Exercise with a friend. Statistics tell us that people who exercise with a friend are more successful at maintaining their consistency.

5.Train for a local 5K or 10K walk or run in your area. This can be great motivation to exercise on a regular basis. I have seen many people transformed from couch potatoes to lean, mean, exercising machines because they decided to enter and train for a competition like this.

6. Keep records. Write down your exercise time (in minutes) each day. Keep a running total for the month and year. Then calculate your average exercise time per day. Just remember to set some lofty goals!

7. Reward yourself! Here’s a real life example: Claire from Atlanta told me that she puts $3 in a piggy bank every time she exercises. She then gives herself the freedom to spend this money on things she normally wouldn’t buy for herself. At the end of each month, she usually ends up with more than $70!

Try using these seven steps and you will find yourself working out through all these lazy festive days!

Have a great holiday

Fightin' Shape

Hey guys

Hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Recently, my website was featured in H|X as the SITE OF THE WEEK. Here's what they had to say:

The most terrifying thing about starting out at the gym is thinking about meeting with a trainer. Will he make fun of you? Will he be exasperated by how out of shape you've allowed yourself to get? No such worries at alejandroq.com, though, where Alejandro Quiroga can give you advice on everything from nutrition to one of his specialized training programs. Which means that you should never have a reason to fear getting into shape again!
—Mark Peiker

If you want to get in shape, that's the most important reason and there's nothing to fear. I am here to support your needs and efforts.

Here's to a healthy holiday season.

Thanks guys
